School Nutrition Association of North Carolina
Student Nutrition Advisory Councils (SNACs) were formed in 1973 based on the idea that students should have an active roll in their school nutrition programs. SNACs across the country have given students a voice and a platform to improve health and nutrition in their schools.
While the formal program sponsored by the School Nutrition Association was discontinued in 2003, SNA still encourages schools to continue forming local SNACs.
SNACs are truly FOR students, BY students! Student members of SNACs work to affect healthy changes in their schools. They are nutrition ambassadors in their schools, working to increase daily consumption of fruits and vegetables, and increase physical activity among their peers.
